Prelim Evaluation:

In what ways does your media product use, develop or challenge forms and conventions of real media products?

During the filming of "Gone" we decided to include a number of different professional well used shots. For the sake of easy reading I'm going to list the types of shot used and explain the examples of where we used them.

Medium Shot: This was used during the student hanging scene this was backed up with a slight tilt to give the scene a sense of realism as for obvious reason we couldn't actually hang Emma for real. This medium shot was not the due to unforeseen circumstances with our hardware (camera) we lost some footage and the best version of this shot(the hanging scene) was lost.

Close Up: The close up shot that we filmed was right at the start of the teacher and pupils feet, this shot was to create tension and to give a sense of mystery for the viewer to keep them in the focus whilst watching it.

Long shot: We used a long shot straight after the closeup example listed above, this was to show the pupil and teacher were going to a destination and to back this up with a long shot as it were.

Match on action: This shot was used close to the end of the clip when the teacher and pupil opened the door we saw them opening it from one side and then the camera focuses in onto the door handle as it comes down.

How does your media Product represent particular social groups?

The are two main social groups being represented in our film:

Teachers: During "Gone" the teacher is shown as very caring and comforting but not in an over the top/odd way . The teacher is also shown as the lead of the entire clip such as suggesting where to go and what to do.

Students: The student is shown to see the teacher as a sort of leader/ role model and because of the problem she has instantly gone to see him and this is a stereotypical view of what happens today in schools.

What kind of media institution might distribute your media product and why?

I would think that this film would be used as an example video from a school for education purposes. I also think that this film may be used by a small films company that would if they were to charge for it would be around £1/£2.

Who would be the audience for your media product?

"Gone" is definitely aimed at a particular audience i would say that it is aimed at secondary to higher education kids (age 15-20s) both male and female mainly for education purposes to learn about camera angles and shot types.

How did you attract/address your audience?

Most of the attraction to "gone" was added during editing via the use of special effects such as black and white transitions but also the use of sound effects such as tense music and sudden sound effects to create tension. I think that also some of the shots used would help create a mysterious sense of thrill and attraction such as the close up shot of feet gives the viewer a want to find out whats going to happen.

What have you learnt about the technologies from the process of constructing this product?

Due to the previous experience with camera work the main things i learned have been via the apple software used for editing as i am not very familiar with the Apple Mac operating systems. I learned how to use the Imovie to edit the film to a near professional standard and also compress the video down and publish it to a final video file.
