1) In what ways does your media product use, develop or challenge forms and conventions of real media products?

During the planning of “Pokers Advocate” I decided to research existing films that have a similar poker/ card game themes to them. Some examples I looked at were Casino Royale and 21. For which by watching clips of and even full movies in the same genre and theme as our film opening I was able to see very clearly the modern media productions features and selling points. Due to the fact that our film was only an opening to a film I was able to extract some of the best features and clever editing techniques of the modern media products. This research provides very useful as having an opening as good as or even better than the modern big successful movies really does challenge the forms and conventions of them.

Another way of challenging the forms and conventions of modern media products is via the modern use of high quality professional equipment, we were very lucky in our group to have access to professional equipment such as red led lights and high quality cameras. As all professionals know that half of every successful modern film or video footage is due to good quality professional equipment and this I think makes our film opening stand out above the rest.

An example of conventions used were that we used a allot of close ups this can be found in the film ‘21’ and upon watching this film for research this proved to be a good use of the camera angle. Another example is the production logos right at the start of the opening for which were designed with the professional logos in mind each with their own unique sound/ jingle to them. Both of these conventions worked well i think the production logos really showed it off to be a professional bit of work and worked well. The use of clever camera angles worked very well too you could clearly see that they were sourced from a professional film/ used in the correct manner. I can give a more direct example of a clever convention used backed up with a screenshot and that is the use of fade, for a few of our shots we decided to use fade as the transition mainly during the angel and devil scene this created real effect and mood to the viewer and worked very well.
